Resilience Hubs in Detroit

What is Resilience

“Resilience” refers to a community's ability to withstand, adapt to, and recover from disruptions or adverse events—such as natural disasters, economic crises, or social challenges—by leveraging resources, social networks, and collective capacity to prepare for and bounce back from these situations.

What is a Resilience Hub?

A resilience hub is a community serving facility that coordinates resource distribution and services before, during, and after a climate disaster.

Why do we need them?

Climate change is happening now. Venerable communities experience increased exposure and sensitivity to climate hazards and a reduced capacity to adapt. Hubs are meant to enhance emergency response and operations.

What does a Resilience Hub offer?

  • Provides mission-driven community services
  • Access to electricity, heating, and cooling to the community during weather emergencies
  • Distributes food, water, tools, resources, and shelter (depending on the facility) during disruptions
  • Logistical coordination with public agencies, emergency responders, and partner orgs
  • Access to basic health & medical supplies in emergencies
  • Communications hub & connection to other community resources
