Submit A Witness Request For A Nonparty Appearance

All Nonparty Appearances must be coordinated through the Law Department. 

Please follow all Nonparty Appearance Request(s) Guidelines.

The City of Detroit Law Department does not accept service of process for Nonparty Appearances. 

Depositions are only being held via virtual/remote appearance. 
 

DEFINITIONS: 

Nonparty Witness: A Nonparty City of Detroit Witness is an active City of Detroit employee who is NOT a party in the lawsuit and the City of Detroit is NOT a party in the lawsuit.

Nonparty Appearance: Depositions, Court hearings, and trials wherein a Nonparty Witness is requested to attend a Deposition, Court hearing, or trial in order to comply with a valid subpoena and/or Court mandated Order. ***Please consider the following before your submission request: 

• If the City of Detroit active employee is a party in the lawsuit or the City of Detroit is a party in the lawsuit, then you are required to contact the City of Detroit Law Department immediately at (313) 224-4550. 
• Please do not submit a request for informal appearances.
