Detroit Pistons and Tom Gores' Family Foundation Announce Final Community Meeting for Brennan Recreational Center at Rouge Park

In an exciting development for the Cody-Rouge neighborhood, the City of Detroit, Detroit Pistons, in collaboration with the Tom Gores' Family Foundation, proudly announces the final community meeting for the Brennan Recreational Center at Rouge Park. This state-of-the-art facility, spanning over 25,000 square feet, will address the community's pressing need for indoor recreational facilities.
Situated adjacent to Brennan Pool, the new recreational center will significantly enhance the recreational landscape in Rouge Park. The Detroit Pistons' owner, Tom Gores, through his Family Foundation, has committed $20 million to the construction of this much-awaited community hub.
LaJuan Counts, director of Construction and Demolition, conveyed her excitement, emphasizing: "The Brennan Recreational Center symbolizes more than just a structure; it embodies hope and opportunity for our community. It reflects our collective aspiration for a healthier, happier, and more cohesive neighborhood. We are eagerly looking forward to the valuable insights from our community members, essential in shaping this center into a space that genuinely meets the needs and elevates the lives of our residents."
“The Tom Gores Family Foundation works to be a catalyst for change, focusing on education, healthcare and community development with a mission to make a lasting difference in communities nationwide through collaboration with local organizations and residents,” Erika Swilley, Detroit Pistons Vice President of Community & Social Responsibility said. “Our hope is that this community center brings people together and serves as a safe place to learn, play and grow.”
Community engagement, a pivotal aspect of this project, commenced in the summer of 2022 and will continue through 2023. Residents are encouraged to participate and provide valuable input regarding the center's final design and center’s programming.
The final community meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 16th, at 5:30 p.m. It will be held at Brennan Pool House, located at 21415 Plymouth Road. All residents and stakeholders are invited to attend and contribute to shaping this transformative recreational space in Rouge Park.
