Environmentally Beneficial Projects
The City of Detroit, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE), and United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are soliciting ideas from the community for environmentally beneficial projects (EBP) for Detroit. The purpose of this effort is to create a list of project ideas generated by community members and community groups that can serve as a resource for future funding opportunities. To be acceptable, an EBP idea must benefit Detroit residents by reducing pollution in air, in water, or on land.
Project ideas will serve as a starting point for further community engagement depending on the leading agency and funding opportunity, including grants or enforcement settlements. There is no guarantee that a submitted project idea will be implemented. Project ideas from the Detroit EBP list could also be modified to suit the funding opportunity before they are approved and implemented.
Community Outreach
The three agencies will conduct two events geared towards making residents aware of this solicitation. There will be one virtual meeting and one in-person meeting. In each meeting, the agencies will describe the goal of the Detroit EBP list and encourage submittal of ideas. The virtual meeting was held Wednesday January 17, 2024 at 6:00 PM. A copy of the slid deck is available below.
In addition, the agencies plan to meet with environmentally focused community groups and share this opportunity via City of Detroit Departments that regularly convene meetings with residents (such as the Department of Neighborhoods, the Planning and Development Department, and the Office of Sustainability). The goal of the informational meetings is to set expectations about the process and educate participants regarding the various project funding mechanisms. It is not expected that participants bring fully formed ideas to the meetings; rather, that ideas be submitted via this webpage when they are ready to submit.
