Sirens

The City of Detroit has installed 56 new digital outdoor warning sirens throughout the city, covering each of the city's 7 districts. This is a historic accomplishment for the city of Detroit.  After several years of closing fire stations, schools, and recreation centers, the city had a total of approximately 22 sirens in use; however, the majority of these sirens had been non-functioning since 2001.  The sirens are meant to be heard in outdoor settings.

The sirens are tested the first Saturday of each month at 1 p.m.  The sirens serve as a warning system for residents.  If you hear a siren outside of the monthly test time, tune in to a local television or radio station for any emergency alerts.
