Building stronger financial futures for Detroit residents 

Bank On Detroit is a collaboration between financial institutions, community-based organizations and local government to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to be financially healthy. Together, we are working to connect people to safe, affordable, and certified banking accounts. This coalition works together to create awareness and access to mainstream banking relationships that follow the Bank On National Accounts Standards. Our members also offer services and educational resources that help empower people and families to improve their financial capability, health and independence.  

 

 

5.4% of U.S. households (approximately 7.1 million households) are unbanked, without a checking or savings account.

Being unbanked can cost $40,000 over a lifetime due to use of costly alternative financial services for routine financial transactions.

In Detroit, one in four residents are unbanked or underbanked.

Join us in connecting Detroit residents to better banking products and making our community a safer, more accessible place to bank. 

Bank On Detroit members are working together to ensure that all households have access to safe and affordable bank accounts that meet their needs, allows them to increase assets, and strengthen their financial stability.

Bank On Certified Accounts are:

 

Safe

These accounts do not allow overdraft or non-sufficient funds fees, so you'll never be hit with a surprise fee.

 

Low Cost

Certified accounts are $5 or less per month, with no unpredictable fees.

 

Functional

Certified accounts always allow free deposits, free withdrawals, and free bill payments

Bank On Detroit is committed to helping residents access safe and affordable banking products and services. Our partners span across local nonprofit and community organizations to local government agencies, all working to help improve the financial stability of residents in Detroit. 

Bank On Detroit is part of the national Bank On movement; like dozens of other Bank On coalitions across the country, Bank On Detroit partners across sectors to work to connect residents to banking products certified as meeting the Bank On National Account Standards. Bank On Detroit also helps residents with information about how to use these products effectively and how to navigate the consumer finance marketplace successfully.

Bank On coalitions provide outreach and programming to connect residents to safe financial products, partner with local financial institutions to facilitate account access, and work to integrate banking access strategies into nonprofit and government social services.
