The City of Detroit is rapidly deploying resources to respond to COVID-19 and ensure an equitable recovery. Between the presidential declarations of emergency on March 13 and June 30, grants and donations empowered the City to serve over 672,000 meals, including piloting door-to-door delivery for individuals and families self-isolating or quarantining to mitigate the risk of spread; 845 individuals otherwise lacking access were provided secure shelter to self isolate through an expansion of shelter sites and supports; 1,250 $2 rides were provided to the testing site for those without other transportation options; and, in partnership with United Way and others, 1.8 million masks were distributed (1.2 million direct to the public via the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Detroit Police Department) to help residents protect themselves and others from further spread of the virus.
We thank all of our grantors and donors to date for their support, and welcome additional donations from individuals and organizations able to give.
